Anchor into your Authentic Rhythm

There is something ancient about our present day.

It calls for a back to basics kind of living.

The removal of our ‘to do’s’ to simply be.

Waking with the sun, retreating with the moon, eating from the land, living from the heart.

The opportunity to simply float throughout the day, tuning into your own biorhythms and acting when inspired.

A standing down of our Masculine, action oriented energy, to embrace the softer feminine aspects of our being. The energy which can feel at peace with spending a day connecting, pottering about and sometimes, not doing anything.

If we’ve been operating on a masculine dominant rhythm for too long, we will feel resistance to embracing this ‘new normal’ feminine way of being.

As easy as it is to say ‘Embrace Surrender’ during this down time, this would be allow the pendulum to propel to the opposite side.

Although Corona has enforced a call for an embrace of our feminine, the masculine within us still requires attention and an order to experience wholeness.

The two energies are constantly co-existing with each other.

True rhythm requires balance.

The acknowledgement and application of masculine and feminine throughout the day.

Like a gift, we have been presented a window of opportunity to reset, and reconnect back to our authentic rhythm.

This rhythm which aligns our inner world, to the world which exists immediately around us and beyond.

A way of being which aligns perfectly to your own unique energies, and brings balance to each day.

I have written this post today to share knowledge and light on this seasonal way of being, to activate the inner knowing from within you, so that you too can begin to re-connect back to your natural rhythms.

A journey to discover my authentic rhythm…

I have been on a deep journey of self discovery for three years now. Releasing my demanding city job, longer term relationship and life to connect back to my authentic self. In this journey I have been guided by spiritual practices, teachers, nature to a place of increasing self awareness. As my attention and energy shifted, the world around me naturally aligned to the person I was becoming. With the loss of my menstrual cycle, I felt without any anchor and rhythm within myself, guiding me to healing my womb through adopting a seasonal way of living, which eventually brought back my menstruation. I have been learning, experiencing and embodying the wisdom of my own journey, sharing through my business The Wake Collective, and guiding and supporting others in their healing journeys. Cyclical and seasonal living is becoming a part of my way of daily life, as a way of maintaining harmony and balance within myself, living with presence. Last year I became a Menstruality Mentor, training on the Women’s Quest Apprenticeship with Wild Power authors Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Huge Wirtzler. This even further solidified the importance and potency of this work, how this knowledge can awaken ancient power within any woman, and provide a paradigm for achieving optimum wellbeing, creativity and spirituality.

This knowledge on Seasonal living will become a part of our workshops, retreats and programmes.

The Outer Seasons

If you’ve been on the path for some time you will have heard the phrases...

“Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world”

“Everything in life is connected “

“We are one”

Sometimes the resonance of this can be lost within the sea of life.

Other times, it’s truth can be felt so profoundly that it can induce a complete surrender of life as we know it.

Seasonality is a perfect gateway into embodying this wisdom.

Our body's rhythm is constantly shifting in line with the outer energy of our planet.

Mostly this is an unconscious thing.

Our body functions in line with the distance we are to the moon, the sun and other planets within our solar system.

It happens, every moment in every day, and is largely unconscious to us.

It’s happening to you right now.

Based on the planetary activity of where you are, there is an optimum state of being, and thus activity primed for maintaining balance and harmony within yourself.

First it’s important to understand the inner and outer rhythms and how they are in accordance to each other.

Our Daily Rhythm…

Inner Human Rhythm - Circadian Rhythm

Outer Earth Rhythm - Earth Rotation

It takes 24 hours for our earth to rotate fully. Giving us equal exposure to the Sun and the moon. No matter where we are located on the globe.

Our inner rhythm, our circadian body clock, operates on a 24 hour basis.

All of our vital organs are used and regenerated during this time. The hormone of serotonin released in line with the rising of the sun to wake us up.

The hormone of melatonin released in line with the moon to wind us down.

Every 24 hours, our inner rhythm is reset, as is the outer rhythms of nature outdoors.

Our Monthly rhythm…

Inner Human Rhythm - Menstrual cycle

Outer Earth Rhythm - Moon Rotation

It takes 28 days for our Moon to orbit the earth.Bringing us various states of the moon in the sky.

Giving light to an individual month. Controlling the tides. No matter where we are in the world.

It takes 28 days for our bodies to complete a menstrual cycle. Our wombs and hypothalamus to work together: To release oestrogen and testosterone. To ovulate and menstruate.

It is no coincidence that these rhythms are aligned. That when it is full moon, we are feeling our most confident, creating and sexual selves.

At New moon, we are inward and embracing surrender.

Simply from outlining these two rhythms, hopefully you can see the synchronicities, and beginning to feel a deeper connection within yourself to embrace.

We begin to not just recognise, but embody the wisdom that we are all connected.

The Sun and the Moon as guides…

The Sun and the Moon interplay is the most important to understanding this rhythm.

The Sun represents the Masculine, outgoing, sexual and creative aspect of our selves. Our ‘doing’ state.

The moon represents the Feminine, withdrawn, loving and being aspect of our selves. Our ‘being’ state.

It is the interplay of these two opposite poles.

The light and the dark.

The feminine and masculine.

Which allows us to align naturally to our authentic rhythm.

When the sun is at its peak, as is our body and our energetic rhythm.
When the night is at it’s deepest, as is our body, in total state of surrender.

These two poles, aligned with our hormonal releases, allow us to create four distinct energies and seasons.

These seasons allow us to flow through a day in total peace and harmony.

Below is a quick view of the four seasons, their energies and the aligned activities.

The Four Seasons…

Below is a shorthand guide to our Seasonal philosophy…

Spring / Awakening

Time of day: 6am to 12 midday

Energy of self: Awakening Masculine

Theme: Preparing the body, mind, environment for the day

Summer / Expansion

Time of day: 12 midday to 6pm

Energy of self: Expanded Masculine

Theme: Focussed action oriented activity

Activities: All outward activities: Work, Creativity, Expression, Socialising, Sex.

Autumn / Dawning

Time of day: 6pm - 12pm

Energy of self: Dawning Feminine

Theme: Drawing energies inwards to reflect

Activities: Relaxation, Intimacy, Retreating, Reflection, Self Care, Nourishment

Winter / Surrender

Time of day: 12pm - 6am

Energy of self: Surrendered Feminine

Activities: Sleep, Dreaming

Once you become aware of these energies, they naturally become the container in which you guide your day.

As I write this, from the highest peak of my Summer energy. In my menstrual cycle I am on day 14, the day of ovulation. In the day it is 1pm. I feel most full on myself, life and the creativity which wishes to pour through me.

All that you need to achieve will naturally align. Allowing you to maintain your energetic equilibrium throughout the day.
